Quickbooks is still the best for small business, despite its shortcomings

Overall, Quickbooks is great for small business, particularly those that have all employees on-site. If you have employees off-site or want a third-party (accountant, for example) to have access, you may want to plan ahead of time and determine if Quickbooks is a great fit. There are third-party apps (QBOX) that can help off-site employees access it, but there are limitations. Otherwise, you need IT to help you set up servers or pay higher prices to Intuit for their customized solutions. That issue aside, Quickbooks is a great product after you get past the learning curve.

Quickbooks is universally known, compatible with many banks and third-party apps, and can be quite helpful for small businesses. You can customize reports, memorize transactions, and make use of many other time-saving features. Once you get comfortable, you can very quickly manage your accounting and see where your business stands. Also, since it is so popular, there are numerous websites that share helpful tips and tricks.

Nachteile

There is a steep learning curve for most users. You will not feel comfortable with it for the first few months. Since it is so popular, however, you can search for nearly any task and find several websites that explain how to perform a task. As a CPA, sometimes I just wanted to see the transaction behind the curtain and it can be difficult to see that. Also, remote access for an external accountant or off-site employees is cumbersome and can require paid assistance.

Easy to use and allows for multiple users and access from anywhere

The enterprise team was amazing when helping set everything up and have been helpful with any questions since. We used to use desktop so the switch was very easy for us. We did not like QBO and it didn't have the features we needed that were in the desktop version, so this was the ideal solution to add accessibility from different locations and for different users.

Vorteile

The ability to access from anywhere and with multiple users - even at different locations.

Nachteile

The ability to save a file onto the users computer rather than the enterprise "computer" is difficult to navigate. Unless using the program that came with the user computer, you don't seem to be able to send emails either.

Please don't buy this. It's really, really bad.

Nachteile

The multi-store is awful. It uses a third party email client to send the exchanges. Both computers must be using the same email client, or it causes bugs. Then sometimes the store exchange doesn't actually update anything so you have to do it several times. This is super fun when it won't include employee hours from a satellite store and it's payday. In addition to that, if you're setting up a new store, it must be the same version as the other stores, or it won't work. This becomes a problem when they stop supporting the older version after 12-24 months, which means you have to pay to upgrade every single machine in all of your stores.

This software has been a complete nightmare for me, and if you try to call for support you better speak Hindi, otherwise, you're screwed. You don't get a native English speaker on the phone until about the third level of support. An average for me has been a half hour of hold time, plus 20 minutes per level of support, with 10 minute hold times between each "support professional". So generally, it takes an hour and a half of dealing with low-level employees with questionable language skills, asking you the dumbest questions you can imagine before you get someone who can understand what your problem is. I have to do this at least once a month.

If you watch it like a hawk; and by that I mean you check you do a physical inventory count and check your items weekly, and you double check every store exchange, it can work.

This is probably the worst point of sale software on the planet. I've been fighting it for three years, and I'm happy to say I've dumped it for something much better.

The inventory management is not good. It deletes items on its own. It changes the quantity of stock for no particular reason. It loses transactions. It generates duplicate items and prices them at $0, so if your employees aren't paying attention they give stuff away for free. It is impossible to keep an accurate inventory unless you do a physical count about once every two weeks.

Sometimes it simply loses data. For example, in 2014, it lost all records of the sales, inventory receiving and employee hours for February, March, and April. It was really a true joy to sit down and try to explain that to the IRS.

Quick books for better company financial management

Overall the system is amazing the features are easy to work through and would recommend it to any person with or without accounting knowledge

The ability to handle the whole counting practice from billing, invoicing creating estimates payments processing, generating client reports and bank transactions management all in one software is awesome and reduces the work load greatly this is all it takes to make it the best software i have used for accounting

Ability of users to delete and edit records and the system not having system logs to show who did it is quite a let down users should not be able do do so and in case of any changes a log history should be sent to admin to show who and what was edited or deleted

Overall a very pleasant experience with Quickbooks, i'm able to invoice and track my Debtor position with ease. Ease of allocation of payments to existing bills removes challenges commonly faced with payment allocation. Has a great overview on the opening interface of a summary of your current position, Debtor, Creditor, Bank etc..

Vorteile

Very good software, customizable invoicing template, user friendly layout that tries to avoid over use of accounting jargon. Invoicing from purchase order and makes it very easy to allocate payments made to existing bills.

Nachteile

I had a challenge in the initial setup when trying to load my trial balance, ultimately resolved after engaging customer care.

Having used this product it's easy to deploy and use , the initial Costs are very friendly to any small and large enterprises .Since it's Cloud based it has made it easier to get real time accounting data for making informed decisions.

A MUST for your business

I initially purchased software to easily take care of my own books, pay contractors and taxes. Im not an accountant and could not afford the overhead of acquiring one. QuickBooks which was referred by my bank was able to get me organized and paying contractors/employees and taxes in a way that made me feel like I was an accountant.

Easy to used, price for product is extremely reasonable, and peace of mind for my business.

I was easily able to streamline my business information from bank account which helped because I don't have the time for the data entry that other software programs required.

Customer service is amazing, they genuinely sound happy to help and have always been able to satisfy any issue with speed and efficiency.

Nachteile

Limitations on number of users and I would like more professional looking invoices.

Quick Books is Perfect For Small to Medium size Businesses

I think quickbooks is a great accounting software for Medium size businesses such as ours its quick and very simple to use i find it very efficient when a customer needs a quotation or invoice urgently i can send him all the relevant information in less than 5 minutes overall i think its a great accounting software and its definitely the best at saving time

I enjoyed the simplicity of quickbooks once i learnt how to use the softare properly doing quotations ,delivery notes & invoices become much more efficient than using Excel once all your company details & inventory is loaded into the software doing everything like quotations & invoices are just two clicks and its done it is very time saving as i do not always have to type out everything manually save it to file and then e-mail , everything is saved onto the software all i had to do was add my customer e-mail address and i could e-mail quotations & invoices straight from the quickbooks software which was very quick and efficient

Nachteile

I disliked that we were limited to the number of users that can use the software at the same time once three or more people were logged the software would throw us out of what ever we were working on

QuickBooks Online Review - Power User Perspective

Overall QB Online has been a positive experience, but there are a lot of things I wish I knew before diving in. Payroll has been the source of many issues, and there are certain features that could be easily added that haven't been. Online has streamlined some of our processes a bit though compared to Desktop, and the price is appealing compared to Desktop + cloud hosting.

Vorteile

QBO is fairly easy to get set up and going. We had a rocky start because we had to import a lot of data from QuickBooks Desktop, and that imported failed the first try. After the second attempt we were in much better shape. We did some cleanup and were good to go in a week. There are still some artifacts that have carried over from Desktop that QBO has no way to clean up, but they aren't intrusive on everyday work. We also love that everything is in the cloud and accessible by up to 5 accounts.

Nachteile

Once again, the import to Online from Desktop was not the greatest. If you cam, avoid this import and start fresh in QBO. There are also some significant features missing from QBO that can be found in the Desktop version of the software. QBO Payroll also appears to be much more restrictive than Desktop Payroll, and support is not great in this area.

The main factors were the cost and the availability. Being cloud hosted was a must for us, and paying for Desktop to be cloud hosted is expensive. We had 2 user accounts for QB Desktop and that cost quite a bit more than the 5 accounts we get with QB Online. QBO is also somewhat simplified compared to Desktop (could be a good or bad thing, depending on who you are and your role).

Cost mainly, but also because the import was supposed to be easier. I can't say if it was because I haven't gotten to try these other software's, but it wasn't as cut and dry as it was made out to be by the QBO team. There was a lot of editing and setup to do after the data was transferred.

Quikbooks is easy to setup and easy to start up.

Overall Quickbooks Desktop is a great program, it's a complete accounting software for manny businesses that can grow with your business. It provides all the tools your business needs, yet is easy to use. I can organize my bookkeeping, manage inventory, track sales, and even run payroll at a fraction of the cost. QuickBooks Enterprise saved me thousands of dollars a year compared to similar solutions. Powerful and flexible.

Vorteile

Simple coordination with other application/Software and makes invoicing simple and powerful relying upon your arrangement. QuickBooks is amazing Software and obliges an extremely wide scope of organizations. In particular it offers incredible technical support (On premise, Calls, Email and, surprisingly, Remote Support), another advantage is all around addressed documentation, and online assistance/Forums.

Nachteile

It is only accessible on your deskto, you can not acces it on the web. In this manner, it is very troublesome especially when everything these days must be gotten to remotely.

Vital tool for small business

I recently purchased the 2020 version of Quickbooks for desktop, after updating my Mac operating system and finding out that I was basically locked out of 2012 version that I had been using - it could not be used with my new OS and I couldn't access any of my business files. After considerable research, I discovered that I could download a trial of a newer version so that I could access my information, but then I needed to decide whether I wanted to purchase a new version of QB for desktop or begin using the online version. I decided to get the 2020 for desktop because I tried the online program and did not like it at all.

There is definitely a learning curve if you've never been a Quickbooks user before, but it far exceeds any other accounting software or program I've tried.

Quickbooks offers everything I need to manage the accounts for my sole proprietorship, from budgeting and expense tracking to documenting vehicle mileage, all in one program. There are myriad other aspects of the program, such as inventory tracking, that I do not even utilize because I haven't taken the time to learn them.

While I have been using Quickbooks for desktop for years now, I still have to look up how to do things and it is not a very intuitive program for someone who did not go to school for accounting or business. If it was more intuitive, I would probably use more of the features.

Quick books has a very easy to understand app & website to manage all your business needs.I deal with a lot of truck drivers on a daily bases and Ifta tax tracking has always been a hassle,but not with quick books.They allow you to add mileage & fuel cost to better estimate quarterly taxes.You also received discounts on tax preparation software.

I honestly don’t have anything bad to say about quickbooks.The only thing I suggest is that they partner with more companies to offer customers discounts.

QuickBooks Online review

As we deal with mostly smaller business our experience is very good with QBO and it works very well and i would say a large majority of our clients are happy with it.

Vorteile

QuickBooks Online (QBO) is a very useful software for our industry. It gives clients a much easier time when completing their accounting records. The software is fairly easy to use with most clients (even those with little or not accounting experience) can use the software little or no training on our part.

Nachteile

The software is very good and very geared towards smaller companies and owner-manged businesses. If the company grows it is very evident that QBO is no longer useful for them. It does not handle a large number of transactions easily and the larger you are the more likely that error downloads will occur and duplicates or omitting transactions does occur.

CUSTOMER SERVICE HELL!!!

Very little benefit. Had to migrate to a more secure, supportable platform.

Nachteile

Although the software is relatively easy to use, there is no security over accounts, cost centers and posted transactions (you can change them whenever you want to ...this month, next month, next year!!). To import data requires a third party app; no available CSV or Excel import feature. Reporting is terrible.

But the worst is when there is an issue with the software you go into Customer Service HELL. Whenever a problem occurs with the system (we use enterprise version hosted by Right Networks), you go into an hours long, days long process that will absolutely drive you nuts. It takes forever to get routed to the right individual (enterprise versus desktop versus online, so on), and then the fun begins. It takse a minimum of 2 hours to solve any problem (which occur frequently) such unknown subscription issue, unknown licensing issues, unknown credit card issues, etc.

Workable solution for a solo freelance accountant up to small businesses

A go-to software for accounting personal to small business projects. Very intuitive and comes with mobile access from multiple devices. Reporting is at the heart of any accounting person (esp Tax and Audit season), Quickbooks will make life a little bit pleasanter during those torture months in the fiscal year. :)

Vorteile

This accounting solution is Web-based. It makes life easy for a mobile accountant (or executive) as one can readily access the ledgers from anywhere, anytime, using any/multiple devices.

The reporting capabilities for me is another most important item to watch. Quickbooks is flexible, customizable, and easy to create reports either via templates or custom to the business scenario. It works well for both.

The interface is intuitive and easy to navigate. We have not yet experienced any lag/downtime (at least whenever we are actively using the service).

Lastly, the terror "Tax Season" is really made a lot more manageable and pleasant due to the powerful reporting tool and easy integration with our third-party tax system.

Nachteile

Limited integrations to third party apps. Actually, for the most basic part, we wanted to hook it up with our timekeeping app, but is currently not covered. Back to the manual solution of inputting hours brute force.

It may be a little tricky (esp at first) when using with multiple accounts. There need to manually change accounts can mess things up esp for pay/payroll.

Quickbooks Self Employed has some work to do.

Vorteile

I like that you can set rules to automate your transaction categories. There is a mobile app that will allow you to photograph your receipts and attach them to the specific transaction it relates. This is the one thing that keeps me with this software. Receipts always get mangled traveling around a lady's purse. Getting them where they go right when you need to is a huge bonus!

Nachteile

The "rules" do have a shortcoming, however. Intuit's free software, Mint that is intended for personal use, will allow more customization of the rules. An example would be if you write a check for maintenance for $52 every week, Quick Books Self Employed will ask if you would like to set up a rule for a transaction titled "check" to always be categorized as "repairs and maintenance." Of course, this is not the only check you ever write, but chances are it's the most common check you write for $52. Well, unlike Mint, Quickbooks will not let you add the amount to the rule. It is one of many things that miffs me about the software. Mint also allows you to create custom categories, but once you pay into Quickbooks Self Employed, no more custom categories. The absolute WORST is the mileage tracking feature on their mobile app. If this feature has you intrigued, forget about it. It may work out fine if you travel far and often. If you travel multiple short trips for work, ie a mobile beauty business, it gets really screwy. I have had it tell me I traveled 23 miles when I really drove 3 blocks. I don't think the IRS would dig that. And the customer service is a total joke. Clearly, we pay for accounting software because we work. I would say that means we don't have all day or even 3 full days to be shuffled from one rep, to another, to email, to chat, back to another phone number and never even solve a problem.

And standard software for accountant in the US

Like I said, its the choice by default on software for financial at your company in the US. Great and easy to maintain with a simple but perfectly working backup option.

Vorteile

QuickBooks went to be a simple software to be the most powerful and almost "by default" software for accountant in the US. Anything you need you have it in there, or they have a module for it. What I love MOST of them is that despite that they added a lot of functions, they keep the data files simple. The backup process its easy, and restore too. I have some customers with problems on their server and was like Reinstall windows/ quickbooks/ restore. And it started with all the info like nothing happen. You can even install QB and just paste files from the older folder and will work. I love that.

Nachteile

I had some problems with the online version, and customer care take a while to resolve them. When an accountant give you access to his/her quickbook online, you enter info but if you change accountant the info its difficult to delete.

Highly Recommend Quick Books

The biggest benefit for our business is the "Insights" tab, which works on Accrual Basis Accounting. It provides our net income at a quick glance within a certain time period of our choosing along with charts showing our expenses, income, and net income It also gives previous year income comparison, top customers by sales, business growth, and net profit margin by using charts to make it easier to comprehend the data. The "insights" tab is also flexible on any date range that is chosen by the user.

Vorteile

Overall, I'm very happy with Quick Books and would recommend to any business owner. I really like the memorized transaction list, where I can just automatically have recurring payments deducted from my system rather its monthly, quarterly, or yearly. It can also be set up as a reminder when certain bills are due for payment.
It's very easy to load, keep track of your vendors and your customers as well as your own company data such as chart of accounts, and items or services that your company provides. The report center is very user friendly with reports already available by just adding a date range, and it also offers the user to create their own costume reports.

Nachteile

I do wish refunding clients with credit balances was a little easier. The system does work, but you need to have an invoice generated with charges before completing a credit memo to send a refund check. Our type of business is a lot of prepaid work, and sometimes the cost comes under, and I just want to refund without creating an invoice. Perhaps there is a simpler way, and I just need to learn how it is done.

Finance & Accounting Assistant

It's been great because of the online aspect. I can work from any computer and even work remotely. I've connected to some great apps like "Business Importer" or "Billpay" where i can import data into the system and have taken full advantage of the bank synching feature.

Vorteile

We use Quickbooks Online and below are the pro's:
1. It's online and comes with cloud storage for attachments and other
2. Great admin management controls. Not super sophisticated but very useful indeed.
3. GREAT GREAT apps that work and synch with QBO
4. Bank synching that allows you to match expenses and income to the bank to help reconciliations go quicker

Nachteile

1. Limited reporting formats. It has several custom reports that you can customize but sometimes it does not have the option for specific reports you would like to see. For example P&L by transaction detail.
2. Customer support is limited, hard to get a hold of, and not the most helpful all the time. A lot of times they refer you to a link
3. Would be nice if you could also customize columns in the entry side of things with customs menus or dropdowns. You have the basic and essentials but would be nice if it was more customizable.

QuickBooks is one of the best software products I have ever used for my business.

It saves me time and money during tax time. It helps me to be more organized and I don't have to sit and stress out as much when it comes to taxes. It has saved me a lot of money from forgotten transactions, mileage, among other things. I use it daily and use every feature constantly. It has a way to show you how much money you will wind up owing quarterly, how much you will get credited for mileage, how much expenses and income you have had, etc. It has been very beneficial to my business and I will continue using it for the foreseeable future!

The product that I have used of Quickbooks is Quickbooks Self Employed. I really like the different options it gives you to keep track of all your transactions throughout the year. You can link your bank account that you use for your business and choose whether the transactions are business or personal. You can either do this from the desktop version or from the app that you can install on either your Android or iPhone. One of the things I love most is the mileage tracker. It keeps me from having to keep track in a mileage log. It provides a map that shows where the start and stop of the trip was and you can choose Personal or Business and categorize them with what the trip was for also! The software is really easy to use and I would recommend it to anyone.

Nachteile

The one thing that I have disliked about the Quickbooks Self Employed is the fact that I have not been able to find an option to add a second business. I have various businesses and I would like to be able to separate my purchases by each business, but as I cannot find a way to do so, I am only able to use the app for one of my business and its expenses.
